Subject: Fate of the Pérez Galdós Secondary School
The Pérez Galdós Secondary School, in Peñagrande (Community of Madrid), is one of the centres being funded under the Multi-Regional Operational Programme for Employment, Training, and Education (Basic Vocational Training) and the ‘New Pathways’ secondary education programme, which both come under the European Social Fund.
The aim of these programmes is to help pupils stay in the education system.
However, parents have learned within the last few weeks that the Community of Madrid intends to close the school.
- Bearing in mind that it is in charge of the European Social Fund, is the Commission aware of the situation at the Pérez Galdós Secondary School?
- Is it acceptable that a regional authority should be planning to close a school even though the school is receiving European funding that should enable it to keep going?
- What steps will the Commission take to ascertain that funding is being properly spent for the appointed purposes?
