EN E-000807/2018 Answer given by Vice-President Mogherini on behalf of the Commission (3.5.2018) Israeli authorities claim that demolitions, confiscations and seizures are justified on the grounds that the structures have been erected without Israeli building permits. For the past years approximately only 1% of the building permits requested by Palestinians in Area C were granted. The Office of the EU Representative to the West Bank, Gaza strip and UNRWA publishes a six-monthly report on demolitions in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. This is publicly available on its website. In order to counter threats against specific communities, high-level diplomatic visits, political demarches among Member states, as well as media outreach have been deployed. The EU Representative and EU Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah also frequently make public statements on demolitions. The Commission would refer the Honourable Member to its answer to written questions E-000068/2018 and P-005598/17 which relate to the same topic.
